What Does "Full Coverage" Really Mean?

A lot of people confuse being “fully covered” with just having the state required amounts of coverage.

In LA, the law requires drivers to have  15/30/25 in liability coverage if they cause an accident.

  • This is the bare minimum.
  • And guess what?  Most drivers have this.

So, what happens if you cause a bad accident and have minimum coverage? You may have serious personal exposure.

By the same token, if someone else causes an accident and has minimum coverage, there may not be enough to cover your claim.

Here are a few tips to protect yourself through insurance in the event of an accident with a driver with minimum coverage:

  • Make sure you have more than minimum liability limits.
  • Make sure to have UM coverage (which cover your own injuries) and
  • Make sure to have Collision coverage (which cover your own property damage).
